Halton Lune Trust is a charitable organisation registered with the Charity Commissioners, charity number 1160975. It was set up in 2015 to distribute the profits of Halton Lune Hydro for public benefit within and around the Parish of Halton with Aughton in line with the Trust Objectives, our Financial controls policy and under Charity Commission rules.
Halton Lune Hydro (HLH), the biggest community owned hydro in England, was officially opened in September 2015. Construction of HLH was financed by a mix of community shares and bank finance, with all of the environmental work funded by a grant from the EU administered by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and with support from other agencies including Lancaster City Council and the Department for Energy & Climate Change (DECC). Halton Lune Hydro has two turbines and a state of the art Larrinier fish pass, and builds on a history of 760 years of hydro power on the River Lune at Halton, 3 miles upriver from Lancaster.
